“The most fulfilled people are the ones who get up every morning and
stand for something larger than themselves.”

About Me
An educator, researcher, and social change agent dedicated to celebrating diversity and actively working for equity, inclusion, and justice, I am inspired by listening to and feeling the power of stories. I firmly believe that education research, policy, and practice must be informed by the expertise of educators and learners, and I know that sharing the stories of these experts is one of the most important ways to do so. Perhaps more importantly, I believe it deeply benefits all of us when we can learn from diverse experiences and perspectives, particularly those that are traditionally marginalized or ignored throughout history and society. As such, I strive to listen and bring attention to stories throughout my work and my life.
I graduated from Swarthmore College in 2010 with a B.A. in Educational Studies and Sociology & Anthropology and a secondary teaching certificate in Social Sciences for Pennsylvania. After graduation, I worked as a Stoneleigh Junior Fellow at Research for Action in Philadelphia from 2010-2011. From 2011-2012, I taught middle school history, geography, and English at Shanghai High School International Division in Shanghai, China. When I returned from China, I started my masters program at the University of Michigan and began working as a graduate assistant at Washtenaw International High School (WIHI). In 2013, I transitioned to be a social studies teacher at WIHI and the newly formed Washtenaw International Middle Academy (WIMA) before finishing my M.A. in Educational Studies in 2014. From 2014-2019, I was the Freshman Class Dean for WIHI and starting in 2019, I serve as our school's first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator. I am also the advisor to schools' Asian Student Association and Diversity Alliance club. In the summer of 2016, I joined the Eastern Michigan Writing Project, and I continue to be involved with various efforts of the School of Education at the University of Michigan. From hosting student teaching interns to participating in panels of practicing educators, these wonderful opportunities allowed me to actively participate in the field of education and understand it as a tool for change. |
