Diversity & Inclusion Presentations & Publications
Sharing information and ideas is essential to continue to push our shared learning process and depth of understanding. As I have developed as a leader for Diversity and Inclusion, these are some of the key ways in which I started communicating with my communities. I hope to continue this work and create more ways to engage others in continued learning and conversations, but here are several examples:
- monthly electronic newsletters;
- a conference presentation; and
- heritage month posters.
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Newsletters (2019-2020)
In my first year as our school's first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator, one of my initiatives was to create and send out a monthly newsletter to all students and families to share knowledge, upcoming events, and other ideas for continuing conversations around these ideas in our community. Here are a selection of the newsletters along with a special flyer created at the request of students in June 2020 when protests for #BlackLivesMatter and against police brutality permeated our nation and our news cycles.

Presentation of Work at National Association of Multicultural Education (2019)
At my request, our school joined the National Association of Multicultural Education to allow a colleague and myself to share our work with a national audience in 2019. We were selected as presenters for two presentations, and this is the presentation on which I was the lead presenter. It highlights some of the work our school did where high school students designed and led several activities and discussions throughout the year for their peers during several hours of four different school days - with my mentorship and guidance. It was exciting to reflect on our work, consider what has made our work possible, and learn from so many other educators at the conference.
Heritage Month Posters (2019-2020)
Each month in my first year as our school's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator, I supported students in making these posters to hang around our school for the selected heritage month in celebration at the time. We will continue to add to these each year, and I hope find more ways to share and celebrate the rich diversity of our world. Included here are some samples of the posters. If you'd like to view more, contact me at [email protected], and I'll happily share additional posters and resources.
