“You don’t make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering, and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas.”
-Shirley Chisholm
Welcome to My Research Portfolio
This portion of the website focuses on my work as a researcher, which I see as being necessarily tied to my work as an educator. It includes ideas of what I hope to look for in my classrooms, and my existing research on media literacy programs for adolescents. Specifically, there are both presentations and publications from my work with media literacy. Please take a look and be in touch with questions or to discuss ideas further.

With my firm belief in the power of stories and the importance of
listening to the voices of true experts in education - practitioners and
learners - I typically use qualitative research methods, particularly
focusing on participatory action research and practitioner research. I
hope to continue to share my work with others through presentations to a
variety of audiences and publishing in various formats.

- Social Studies - As a very young classroom teacher, I have not had the chance to
examine my own teaching yet, but at this link you can look at one idea (of many) that I hope to
examine as I get more settled in the classroom. Right now, it's a lot of blogging, reflecting, questioning, and figuring things out as I go along.
- Media Literacy - I have had great opportunities to do research on several aspects of youth media, which you can look through here.
